Leadframe
Mounted Ceramic Chip Housing
A customer had a custom requirement for
a PCB mounted housing for a ceramic integrated circuit.
Cotsworlds' designers looked at the project
and designed the tool to be able to mould the housing around
the Leadframe legs, providing solder legs outside the housing
and contact points for the chip inside the housing.
This meant that the tooling would have to
be of the highest quality and accuracy, as the lead frames
we only 0.3mm wide, so they could easily be bent or damaged
by any slight misalignment in the tool. Cotsworlds' close
working relationship with the toolmakers of the highest
calibre, enabled a tool to be produced capable of moulding
five housings at a time on a leadframe strip.
The added complication was that the parts
had to be moulded in LCP material, which has proven problematic
to many other companies.
Because of our long experience with this
material and our relationship with the material manufacturer,
we were able to manufacture the product very successfully.
